We are a little over two weeks into the draft but I can finally see the light ahead. There have been some painful moments but it’s been informative and I’ve really enjoyed myself. I’m particularly excited about the new guys who have joined the league and the passion and competitiveness they’ve brought with them. Our leagues in the past have always consisted of eight active owners, six of whom were competent, while the remaining four having closer resemblances to drones than owners. So I’m pumped about the raised bar.
With all that being said, I’ve realized the importance for Seth and myself as commissioners to be more comprehensive and complete, especially in our writings dealing with the league rules and constitution. There were a handful of ideas and rules I had envisioned to implement for this league but I failed, for whatever reasons, to mention them in the constitution. As much as it kills me, we will not vote to add or make any rule changes until the offseason unless it’s absolutely vital for the continued success of the league.
There is however, one rule in which I’d like to discuss and have implemented immediately that I feel would make the league a lot more enjoyable now and in the future. As Seth has wisely pointed out though, I cannot call for a vote because that would go against everything I’ve just mentioned above. Therefore, if anyone is opposed to the idea then we will just have to wait until the offseason. But my hope is that no one will have any objections (crossing my fingers) and we can get a unanimous decision to implement the change.
Here it goes.
I wanted to increase our minor league rosters by five in each of the first few seasons of the league. This was intended so owners did not have to drop minor league players to make room for other player’s added in international signings, the 5-round rookie draft, or even by trade during the season.
What I am proposing is that after our draft is over, our minor league rosters expand from 20 to 25 slots. That way, once our minor league draft comes around we will not have to drop our current players for our new ones.
It would also allow owners to trade MLB players for top prospects without having to dump their own minor league players.
There are a few other benefits that this rule would add to our league but I’ve wasted enough of everyone’s time so I’ll go ahead and post this so the discussion may begin.
